He said this while talking to media after a meeting with Kashmiri leaders who led by All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq called on him at his Raiwind residence. Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and other Kashmiri leaders were also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, the delegation of Kashmiri leaders held detailed exchange of views on the freedom movement and political situation in Kashmir with the PML-N President. The PML-N President held out assurance to Kashmiri leaders that his party would continue to support the resolution of Kashmir issue in line with the aspirations of Kashmiri people, sources said.
Nawaz welcomed trade between Pakistan and India but said that lasting solution of disputes between India and Pakistan was not possible without resolution of Kashmir issue in accordance with wishes of Kashmiri people. APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said Kashmir was a trilateral issue and expressed optimism that new government in Pakistan would play its role in moving forward the Kashmir issue. He appreciated the restoration of the dialogue process between Islamabad and New Delhi but said that India would have to change its stance on Kashmir. However, he said Kashmir issue could not be resolved without justice to Kashmir cause.
The Kashmiri leader said the sole purpose of their visit was to spur the efforts for the settlement of the Kashmir dispute, adding all political parties of Pakistan had always extended its moral‚ diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiris. He said any long-term peace between Pakistan and India was impossible without a solution to the Kashmir problem. Mirwaiz said Kashmiris support talks between Pakistan and India, however, the Kashmiri leadership should be made part of the negotiations. He called for evolving such a policy that could help the Kashmiris in getting right to self determination.
